8 Things to Know Before Renting a Water Slide for Your Event

Measure the Usable Setup Space

Measure the area where the water slide will actually sit, not the entire yard or property. Fences, trees, landscaping, patios, rooflines, power lines and other obstacles can reduce the space available for setup.

Remember that the inflatable needs more than its listed footprint. Installation also requires room for anchoring, the blower, water connections and appropriate clearance around the attraction.

Check How the Water Slide Will Reach the Setup Area

A slide can fit perfectly in the backyard and still be impossible to deliver through the available access. Look at gates, narrow walkways, stairs, retaining walls, steep slopes and other restrictions between the delivery point and the setup area.

Larger water slides are substantial pieces of equipment when rolled for transport. If access is unusual, let the rental company know before delivery day rather than discovering the problem when the crew arrives.

Confirm the Setup Surface

Tell the rental company what surface is underneath the planned setup area. Grass, turf, concrete and other surfaces can require different installation methods, and not every attraction or location works with every surface.

The area should also be reasonably level and clear of obstacles that could interfere with the inflatable or its anchoring. Do not assume that an open-looking area is automatically an acceptable setup location.

Make Sure You Have a Working Water Source

Water slides need access to a working outdoor water source that can reach the planned setup area. Think about the location of the spigot before choosing where the slide will go.

The water source and the setup location need to work together. A large open area on the opposite side of the property may not be useful if water cannot reasonably reach it.

Plan the Electrical Power Before Delivery Day

Inflatable water slides use blowers to remain inflated, and larger attractions may use more than one motor. Do not assume that every slide has the same electrical requirements or that one outlet will power every setup.

Know the Rules if the Party Is at a Park or Public Facility

Parks and public facilities can have their own rules for inflatable vendors, permits, generators, setup locations and anchoring. Water attractions may have additional restrictions because of water usage and possible grass damage.

In our experience, cities commonly restrict water slides for private park rentals even when water inflatables have appeared at city-sponsored events. Those events can operate under different approvals and rules, so seeing a water slide at a city festival does not automatically mean it is allowed for a private reservation.

Choose for the Guests Who Will Actually Use the Slide

A taller slide is not automatically a better rental. Think about the ages of the guests, how comfortable they are with climbing and sliding, the number of people attending and how quickly you need guests to move through the attraction.

Younger children may be happier on a smaller or easier-to-climb slide, while older kids, teens and larger groups may prefer taller or dual-lane options. Mixed-age events may work better with more than one type of activity.

Plan the Rest of the Event Around a Wet Attraction

A water slide changes how guests move through the event. Think about where riders will enter and exit, where wet feet will travel, where adults can supervise, and where food, seating, gifts and other activities will be located.

Shade, cold drinks and a dry place to sit can make a big difference during a summer party. The goal is not simply to fit the water slide into the space; it is to make the entire event layout work around it.
